I recently watched the documentary on Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter. I quickly remembered how excited he gets over each individual animal. In nearly every clip he says, “This is the best day of my life!" In the next clip, his wife Terri said, "Steve says every day is the best day of his life."
When was the last time you said that phrase at work? "This is the best day of my life!" I have been pondering that phrase and have come to the conclusion that we CREATE the best day of our lives. (With great research to back this up!) We decide if our career is worth investing in and worth getting excited about. We decide how we are going to interact with others, we decide if we are going to make a life we are proud of. It is easy to be a walking zombie and turn off every emotion so you don't have to put in the effort to do work you are proud of and actually care.
Today, decide if your life and career are worth investing in. Decide the meaning and value you give to your work. I quickly learned which part of my business provides meaning and value and what doesn't. I have made some changes and now spend my time and energy in more meaningful areas. As you become aware, you have the knowledge to act.
